First Annual Highland Games 2010

We were invited to attend a highland games festival organized and hosted by our friends the Stricklens. Sadie was thrilled to get in the spirit of it all and learn to make costumes for her daddy and brother. Patrick & my mother (Mimi) worked with her to get the job done. Thank you, Mimi.

We had a set of flannel, plaid sheets that they used to make two kilts, five tams (hats), & four plaids (sashes) with a bit of fabric left over to splash a little extra plaid on Emilie and me. Sadie was able to borrow a skirt and vest from the Stricklens. With the purchase of a few other accessories, we were set.

No, Abby, he's not killing the cat. Those are sheers and he's pretending to shave her.

Don't mess
with a man in a dress...
I mean kilt :~)

Willamina Wallace?

Fierce!

Patrick is so crafty and creative.

Thanks again, Mom

It's our Vision Forum pose.

Don't they look great?

The Stricklen girls did such a wonderful job with everything.

Will thought you were supposed to come dressed as an adorable little boy!

Two wonderful dads!

The boot toss.

Getting ready to start the egg & spoon race.

Very serious business.

I was so proud of all these men for going all out to really enjoy the theme of the day.

"Does this kilt make my butt look fat?"
"No, ... it's not the kilt."
Michael Doolin
He kept moving, making it hard to capture his picture :~)

That's my man tossing that log!
Yes, he had to take something for his back later.

Daniel in the boulder/rock/cannon ball toss.

"Put another shrimp on the barby."
oops! Wrong theme :~)

The world premier of the dramatic play "Who Stole Me Haggis?"

"Did you steal me haggis?"

"No, sir, not I sir."

"Please sir, forgive me. It was the best tasting haggis me ever had."

"What's haggis?"

A pretty Scottish song from a pretty Alturas lass.

Emilie won first place in the sack race and Sadie won first place in the "can you make heads or tales of these weird Scottish words" contest :~)

The dessert table. Yum

Thank you Stricklen family for a wonderful day!

Sadie, you and your Mimi did a great job on the costumes (with help from your Dad, too!).

Kellipaige, wonderful post! I was thinking about getting started organizing photos, but you did a great job right off! I am surprised Mary didn't beat you to it!

I love those men in skirts! They got into it and made their families proud! And the little ones were so cute in the "play premiere". The Stricklen girls did a wonderful job of organizing, working, and getting Daddy involved in the welding, etc.

It was a wonderful day.

Love,
Mrs. Frodge, who
can appreciate your mother's contribution to this grand
event! Grandmothers are blessed
to be involved in the lives of
their sweeties!

Meant to add: our family often wondered what became of my grandmother's old fox stole (which used to fascinate and revolt us as children). Now we know; Michael how did you do that?!

Wow! That was fast! Did you start working on this post as soon as you got home from the party??? :D

Wonderful pictures from a fun filled day! I agree with Abby-y'alls costumes were great! Everyone looked very Scottish. :)

Now you will have to find some more sheets that match your glasses... ;)

See ya soon!

Love,
Amanda

Katie ~ we did have a wonderful time, but wish you and the Dischers could have been there too :~)

It is wonderful to have such creative friends that throw such fun parties. I was also very proud of the dads for going all out for their kids.

Amanda & Mrs Frodge ~ I worked on it Sunday night and stayed up way too late to get it done :~)

Amanda ~ Mr. Doolin was so funny with that comment about my glasses. :~)

That was such a great post! I loved all your comments. Especially the "Vision Forum pose"!
Also, the "starving villagers" one!
You took some great pictures.
I must compliment your costumes as well. You should have won the "Best Dressed Family" prize!

So glad you came and even more glad that you all enjoyed your day and that the Lord was honored throughout the day!

Love,
Molly

Molly ~ Thank you. Patrick had the vision, my mother new how to sew pleats, and Sadie worked hard helping and learning. I made dinner and stayed out of their way :~) As for "Best Dressed Family" I thought we had it until the Doolins showed up. I'm glad you didn't actually give a prize because it would have been hard to choose. They looked great!

Thanks again for providing such a wonderful day of fun and fellowship for our families.

It WAS a great post, Kellipaige! Thank you so so much for posting so quickly. We were all dying to see the pics. Your review of the day was great.

We too got such a kick out of the VF pose! Also loved the starving villagers. So funny!

Your family looked great. We are so proud of all those men getting into the spirit of it. Congrats to your kids for winning the games that they did. The skit sounds like it was really cute.

Love you all!
